The University Grants Commission invites applications for the award of scholarship for the year
2009-10 under the scheme of PG Scholarship for Professional courses for Scheduled Caste/Scheduled
Tribe Candidates.
This scheme has been initiated keeping in view the social background of the candidates from the
deprived section of the society and to provide them opportunity to undertake postgraduate level studies in
Professional subjects like Engineering & Technology, Management, Pharmacy etc. in Indian
Universities/Institutions/Colleges.

PG Scholarship for Professional courses for ST SC Students India
The objective of the scheme is to provide financial assistance to 1000 SC/ST candidates to pursue
postgraduate level studies in Professional subjects at recognised Indian Universities/Institutions/Colleges.
Eligibility for PG Scholarship for Professional Courses for SC ST
The candidate must have obtained graduate degree in the relevant subject and obtained admission at
Postgraduate level for regular full time course in any of the Professional subject in a recognized
Universities/Institutions/Colleges. Candidates pursuing PG course in Professional subjects by
correspondence or by Distance Education mode are not eligible to receive financial assistance under
this scheme. The upper age limit for male applicants is 45 years as on 1st July on the
year of application, and 50 years in the case of female candidates. In exceptional
cases, the age may be relaxed.
Procedure for applying for PG Scholarship for Professional Courses for SC ST
The candidates belonging to SC/ST categories fulfilling the eligibility conditions are
required to apply against the advertisement to be published by the UGC after
obtaining admission in a recognized University/Institution/College. The selections
would be completed by the end of August every year in prescribed format.

Nature of Assistance available under PG Scholarship for Professional Courses for SC ST
The number of slots available under the scheme are 1000 per year. The tenure of
award is for two/three years depending upon tenure of the postgraduate course.
Candidates selected for the award of PG scholarships shall be provided Scholarship
@Rs.5000/-per month (M.Tech.) with the contingency of Rs. 15000/- per annum and
for other courses @ Rs.3000/- per month and contingency grant of Rs.10,000/- per
annum for the duration of the PG Scholarship for other courses.
Procedure for release of grant by the UGC PG Scholarship for Professional Courses for SC ST
On receipt of duly completed application form of the candidate together with
required documents and based on the merit of the candidate the UGC office shall
release the first instalment of the admissible grant to the concerned institution(
Annexure II). Thereafter, the grant shall be released on receipt of the Utilisation
Certificate and statement of expenditure for the last grant paid (Annexures- III, IV).
On completion of the scholarship, an audited utilisation certificate is to be submitted
by the University/Institution/College from which the candidate has completed the PG
Programme.
Procedure for monitoring the Progress of the candidate PG Scholarship for Professional Courses for SC ST
The progress of the candidate shall be monitored by the head of the
department. The candidate is required to submit a yearly progress report duly
signed by the Head of the Department and Registrar of the University or Head of the
Institution or Principal of the College. The scholarship shall stop after the last
academic year of the programme
Cancellation of Award PG Scholarship for Professional Courses for SC ST
The fellowship is liable to cancellation, in case of:
1. Misconduct
2. Unsatisfactory progress of research work
3. Candidate is later found ineligible

below, may be sent to the UNDER SECRETARY (SA-III) UNIVERSITY GRANTS COMMISSION, BAHADUR SHAH ZAFAR
MARG, NEW DELHI –
110 002 duly forwarded through the Universities/Institutions/Colleges where the candiate is pursuing
his/her Post Graduate course within one month from the date of issue of the advertisement.
The selection will be made with the help of an expert committee constituted by the commission.
The decision of the commission in this regard will be final. Direct and Incomplete applications will not be
